Football Recap: Cromwell/Portland's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cromwell/Portland). They blew past the Sports & Medical Sciences Academy/Bulkeley/Classical Magnet Tigerhawks 51-18 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won seven games by 21 points or more so far this season.

Cromwell/Portland got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tyler Cipolla out in front who rushed for 159 yards and one score on only six carries. Cipolla got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 97 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Sitaro Jr., who threw for 70 yards and three touchdowns.

Cromwell/Portland didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cipolla and Zhyair Brown. With that strong performance, Cipolla is now averaging an impressive 102.2 rushing yards per game. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

The win keeps Cromwell/Portland at an undefeated 8-0. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 43.6 points this season. As for Sports & Medical Sciences Academy/Bulkeley/Classical Magnet, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Looking ahead, Cromwell/Portland will host Rockville at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' defense better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 43.6 points per game this season.
