Softball Game Preview: Spanish River Sharks vs. Boca Raton Bobcats

Spanish River has gone 9-1 against Boca Raton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Spanish River Sharks are taking a road trip to challenge the Boca Raton Bobcats at 6:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Spanish River is headed into the game having just suffered their closest defeat since March 28, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of Park Vista by a score of 5-3. The Sharks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Giselle Portanova spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Spanish River saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adrianna Boucher, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Kat Arencibia also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Boca Raton's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They came up short against Dr. Joaquin Garcia, falling 12-0. Having soared to a lofty 23 runs in the game before, the Bobcats' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Boca Raton suffered their first road loss, dropping their record down to 4-2. As for Spanish River, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

Everything went Spanish River's way against Boca Raton in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Spanish River made off with a 9-1 win. Will Spanish River repeat their success, or does Boca Raton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
