La Vega had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They really took it to the Kennedale Wildcats for the full four quarters, racking up a 41-3 victory. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

La Vega's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kourtney Parr led the charge by rushing for 38 yards and one TD, while also throwing for 153 yards and one touchdown. Those 38 rushing yards gave Parr a new career-high. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Elbert Jones, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something La Vega proved: they limited Kennedale to a paltry 2.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Ge'Unte Thomas for the heroic effort on defense: he. La Vega didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.7.

Special teams played a big role in the game for La Vega, adding 17 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Qwae Willis, who ran a punt back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a kickoff return touchdown from Jones.
