Volleyball Recap: Lila Soto Key Part of Team Effort in Wolves Win

While Gorton didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-8), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Spring Valley Tigers with a sharp 3-0 victory on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolves.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 25-10, 25-21.

Gorton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lila Soto, who had seven kills and seven aces. Those seven kills gave Soto a new career-high. Katie Rojas was another key player, getting ten digs and three aces.

They weren't the only good servers: Gorton was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 28 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 17 aces in five consecutive matches.

Gorton's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Spring Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Gorton is set to challenge their familiar foe Poughkeepsie at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Spring Valley will take on rival Barack Obama School for Social Justice at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
