Football Recap: The Classical Academy of Sarasota Takes a Loss

The Classical Academy of Sarasota and Saint Francis Catholic Academy squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but The Classical Academy of Sarasota had to settle for second. They took a 73-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolves. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (45), the Patriots still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, The Classical Academy of Sarasota still got an impressive performance from Mason Knepp, who threw for 410 yards and seven TDs, and also rushed for 81 yards and a pair of scores. The Patriots are 3-1 when Knepp posts three or more passing touchdowns, but 1-7 otherwise. Jackson Schlabach was Knepp's top target, picking up 186 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

It was another big night for Jake Long, who rushed for 351 yards and six scores while picking up 13.0 yards per carry, and also threw for 104 yards and one TD for Saint Francis Catholic Academy. Thanks to that big game, Long is now up to 20 rushing touchdowns on the season. Another player making a difference was Carson Long, who gained 187 total yards and four touchdowns.

The Classical Academy of Sarasota's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Saint Francis Catholic Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-6.

The Classical Academy of Sarasota does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Saint Francis Catholic Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against All Saints' Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Wolves will need to watch out since the Saints have now posted at least 31 points in their last four contests.
