Baseball Recap: Jones Gets the Win

Jones's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They skirted past the Westmont Sentinels 6-4.

Jack Hiltz made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Jones is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise. Hiltz was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Ellis Alexander was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Jack Condne, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.

Jones is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Westmont, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5-1.

Looking ahead, Jones will welcome Berwyn/Cicero Morton at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Westmont, they will challenge Plano at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Reapers will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
