Softball Recap: Homestead Snags Tenth Win in Last 12 Games

After only two runs in their last game, Homestead made sure to put some runs up on the board against Adams Central on Wednesday. The Spartans blew past the Flying Jets 14-1. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Maddy Burbrink made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, earning one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Braeli Borchers was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Ellyana Hyder was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Homestead is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Adams Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season.

Homestead will venture away from home to take on Fort Wayne Bishop Luers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Adams Central, they will welcome South Adams at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Starfires' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Flying Jets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
