Football Game Preview: Warren County Eagles vs. Holmes Aces

Warren County is on a nine-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Holmes is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Eagles will welcome the Aces at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Warren County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They put the hurt on East Carteret with a sharp 44-23 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by 20 points or more this season.

Graham Hosch had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 183 yards and one score while picking up 9.6 yards per carry. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack and making three total tackles. Zynir Douglas was in the mix too, providing Warren County with two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Warren County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 395 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 199 rushing yards in seven consecutive games.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Warren County's defense and their seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Mari Hymon and Mekhi Chavis, who racked up four sacks between them. Chavis is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last four games he's played.

Meanwhile, it may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but Holmes ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They snuck past North Duplin with a 34-28 win. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Aces were down 14-0 in the second quarter.

Holmes' win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Warren County, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.
