Portales has gone a perfect 10-0 against Lovington recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Rams will challenge the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Portales is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Artesia, who was ranked 11th at the time (Portales was ranked 18th). The Rams took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs on Tuesday.

While Portales had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-18, 25-22, 19-25, 25-19.

Meanwhile, Lovington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss. They lost 3-0 to Goddard.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-6, 25-15, 25-15.

Lovington's defeat dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Portales, their loss dropped their record down to 13-5.

Everything went Portales' way against Lovington in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as Portales made off with a 3-0 win. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
