Softball Recap: Richmond's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Richmond came into Monday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Pinecrest Patriots on Monday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Hayden Robinson and Jakayla Steele did most of the damage at the plate: Robinson got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Steele got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Robinson has posted since April 2nd. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Smith, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Richmond pushed their record up to 9-16 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pinecrest, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-17.

Coming up, Richmond will square off against Scotland at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Fighting Scots will roll in looking for their 21st straight victory, something the Raiders surely won't give up without a fight. Pinecrest does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
