Volleyball Recap: St. Edward Green Wave vs. Illinois Math & Science Academy Titans

St. Edward was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Illinois Math & Science Academy Titans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Green Wave of the 2-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

Francesca Buono paced St. Edward's offense, picking up five kills. Buono got some help from Gaby Resendiz and her eight assists. Resendiz also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Nuala Kiley, each putting up five.

Illinois Math & Science Academy can attribute much of their success to Kendall Adkins, who had six digs and four aces. That's the most aces Adkins has posted over her last 13 matchups. Layna Velarde also deserves some recognition as she had her first dig of the season.

St. Edward's defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Illinois Math & Science Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9-1 record this season.
