Baseball Recap: Sunnyside Sets Scoring Season-High Against Davis

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sunnyside). They came out on top against the Davis Pirates by a score of 13-9 on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Grizzlies: when they faced off against the Pirates on Friday, they had to take a 5-4 loss.

Fidel Cubie Castro was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over 4.1 innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryker Heeringa, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Sam Johnston, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Sunnyside's victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-11. As for Davis, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.

Looking ahead, Sunnyside will venture away from home to square off against West Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Grizzlies surely won't give up without a fight. As for Davis, they will welcome Eisenhower at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pirates are facing the Cadets at the right time seeing as the Cadets are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
