Baseball Recap: Willowbrook Gets the Win

Willowbrook proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by nine) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the York Dukes, sneaking past 6-4. This was payback for the Warriors, who suffered a 13-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Luke Ranieri looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jake Bonino, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.

Willowbrook has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for York, their loss ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-3.

Willowbrook and York should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Warriors will take on Proviso East at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (133 vs. 539). Meanwhile, York (ranked 13th) will meet Lane Tech (ranked 136th) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
