League recap: Taft scores huge upset over Arvin

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Taft, who took down 322nd ranked Arvin, 23-9. Vaughn Richardson threw for 113 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

The Wildcats moved up to 635 from 844 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in South Sequoia. Taft climbed the ranks as a result of a 23-9 win over the Bears.

Bakersfield Christian's dynamic duo of Jake Thompson and Hayden Kuchta proved tough for Chavez to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Thompson threw for 215 yards and three touchdowns and Kuchta had 137 yards receiving. Robert Keathley helped Bakersfield Christian's passing attack out by catching three balls for 54 yards.

Derrick Barton was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 11 carries, he ran for 134 yards as Shafter bested the Titans. Kyle Millwee also contributed to the rushing game with 28 yards on the ground.

Jarudd Prosser's team's Richardson and Steven Gee have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Richardson has thrown for 793 yards this season, while Gee, a 6-foot-4 receiver, has 26 catches for 612 yards. Matt Smith from Bakersfield Christian leads the league in rushing with 807 yards.

Two of the top units in South Sequoia will face off this week when the Generals take on the Wildcats. Shafter's offense has scored 217 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while Taft has allowed only 136 on the year.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Wasco takes on Chavez. The Tigers are currently in first, while Sergio Barajas's team is in fourth.

Ricky Ishida's team extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Kennedy, 45-0. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
