The Plainfield South Cougars will take on the Oswego Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Oswego took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Plainfield South, who comes in off a win.
Having struggled with six defeats in a row, Plainfield South turned things around against Joliet Central on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Steelmen with a sharp 18-8 win. Considering the Cougars' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Sami Schmidt was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Riley Hubbart was another key player, earning two RBI, three runs, and one stolen base.
Plainfield South always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Oswego unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of Oswego East by a score of 6-5.
Adalynn Fugitt was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Gengler, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Plainfield South's victory bumped their record up to 6-19. As for Oswego, their loss dropped their record down to 15-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Plainfield South hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Oswego struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Plainfield South skirted past Oswego 3-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
