Volleyball Recap: Newaygo Takes a Loss

If Newaygo was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Big Rapids on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lions took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spring Lake Lakers on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lions of the 2-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2023.

The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 25-13.

Ruby Hughes paced Newaygo's offense, picking up 21 kills. Hughes got some help from Grace Hughes and her 22 assists.

Newaygo's loss dropped their record down to 22-12. As for Spring Lake, the win snapped their losing streak at five matches and leaves them with a 8-15-2 record.

Newaygo has already played their next matchup, a 3-2 victory against North Muskegon on the 16th. As for Spring Lake, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-1 win against Coopersville on the 16th.
