Football Recap: Vicksburg Gators vs. Holmes County Central Jaguars

Vicksburg kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 20-6 bruising from the Holmes County Central Jaguars. While losing is never fun, the Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 117th, while the Jaguars are ranked 27th).

Despite the loss, Vicksburg still got an impressive performance from DeCorey Knight, Jr, who rushed for 130 yards, and also picked up 80 receiving yards and a touchdown. Vicksburg also got a significant boost from Cedrick Blackmore, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 105 yards.

Blackmore wasn't the only one working in the rushing yards department: Vicksburg was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 235 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holmes County Central only rushed for 119.

Garrison Davis had a dynamite game for Holmes County Central, throwing for 370 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 17.6 yards per attempt. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in total yards. Julius Mathis was Davis' top target, picking up 90 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Vicksburg will challenge Forest Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Holmes County Central, they will be playing at home against Jefferson County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
