Football Recap: Charlotte Christian Finds Playoff Glory Versus Rabun Gap-Nacoochee

It's playoff time, and Charlotte Christian had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 55-48 victory over the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Eagles on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Knights sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Jamal Rule had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 189 yards and a pair of TDs, while also picking up 126 receiving yards and one touchdown. His longest reception was for an incredible 71 yards. Tate Estep also helped out with an impressive 96 receiving yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Charlotte Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 222 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 175 rushing yards in three consecutive games.

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Owens, who threw for 246 yards and three TDs while completing 80% of his passes, and also rushed for 62 yards on only six carries. Owens' passing game has become a key predictor of the Eagles' success: the team is 6-3 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Jordan Lindo was another key player, rushing for 149 yards and a pair of scores on only 15 carries.

Charlotte Christian's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Rabun Gap-Nacoochee, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-5.

Looking ahead, Charlotte Christian will square off against Providence Day at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights will need to watch out since the Chargers have now posted at least 31 points in their last 11 contests. Rabun Gap-Nacoochee does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
