Football Recap: Garces Memorial Finds Playoff Glory Versus Tehachapi

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Garces Memorial walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Tehachapi Warriors with a sharp 34-10 win on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won four in a row.

Garces Memorial's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mark Gomez, who threw for 317 yards and five TDs while completing 81.5% of his passes. Those five passing touchdowns gave Gomez a new career-high. Treson Wallace did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 94 receiving yards.

Another reason for the win was Garces Memorial's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In that department, Broc Clites was the leader with two.

Tehachapi's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Thaddeus Dyer, who picked up 97 receiving yards and one touchdown. Dyer didn't just play on offense: he also made four total tackles and defended one pass.

Garces Memorial's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Tehachapi, they moved to 6-5 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Garces Memorial will venture away from home to take on Arroyo Grande at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Tehachapi does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
