Esperanza easily dispatched Brea Olinda last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Esperanza Aztecs fell just short of the Pacifica Mariners by a score of 61-58 on Tuesday. The Aztecs' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Esperanza lost, don't look at Alex Van Otterloo. Despite the final result, he went 9 for 17 en route to 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Fries, who posted 13 points.

Esperanza's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-8. As for Pacifica, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season.

Esperanza wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 58-48 win against El Modena on the 31st. Pacifica has also already played their next game, a 47-34 defeat against Sunny Hills on the 31st.
