Basketball Recap: Elkhorn Valley Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Elkhorn Valley had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They claimed a resounding 67-26 victory over the Neligh-Oakdale Warriors. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Elkhorn Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Logan Black, who went 9-for-12 en route to 20 points and six steals. Those six steals gave Black a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Korbin Werner, who shot 75% from the field on his way to 12 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds.

Elkhorn Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Neligh-Oakdale only posted five.

Despite the loss, Neligh-Oakdale saw an underclassman step up: freshman Trevan Torres went 8-for-20 to rack up 21 points.

Neligh-Oakdale's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Elkhorn Valley has already played their next contest, a 46-38 victory against Lutheran-Northeast on the 6th. As for Neligh-Oakdale, they will be playing at home against Elgin/Pope John at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup will give the Warriors their first taste of in-conference action this season.
