Bellevue East proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by eight) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Millard West Wildcats 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Chieftains have posted against the Wildcats since September 20, 2019.

Alisha Mcmurtry made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and one double.

In other batting news, Bellevue East let Brynn Friedrich and Audrina Urwin run wild. Friedrich earned two runs and two stolen bases, while Urwin went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Friedrich has posted over her last 16 matchups.

Bellevue East has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Millard West, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-7 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Bellevue East will face off against rival Papillion-LaVista at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Chieftains 2.9, the Monarchs 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Millard West is set to challenge their familiar foe Papillion-LaVista South at 6:45 p.m. on the 23rd.
