Softball Game Preview: Shelton Gaels vs. Cheshire Rams

Shelton is 1-7 against Cheshire since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Gaels will be playing at home against the Rams at 3:45 p.m.

Shelton fell victim to Mercy and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 7-0.

Sammi Denihan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits.

Meanwhile, Cheshire entered their tilt with Law on Monday with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Lawmen a 13-0 shutout. Considering the Rams have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Cheshire got a great performance from Jenica Matos as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Matos has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Jordan McCue was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. McCue is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Ava Pearson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Shelton's loss dropped their record down to 4-7-1. As for Cheshire, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
