Baseball Recap: Picayune Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven

Picayune took a 12-run defeat the last time they faced off against St. Patrick, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Picayune Maroon Tide had just enough and edged out the St. Patrick Fighting Irish 10-9 on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Maroon Tide: when they faced off against the Fighting Irish last Tuesday, they had to take a 22-10 loss.

Landon Franklin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in February of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That double marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cooper Moreaux, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Justin Stockstill also deserves some recognition as he stole his first stolen base of the season.

Picayune's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for St. Patrick, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-5.

Looking ahead, Picayune will face off against Poplarville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Patrick, they will challenge George County at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. George County's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so St. Patrick's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
