Gabrielino extended their road winning streak to four games thanks to a huge performance from Alijah Sheppard. Gabrielino narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past South El Monte 30-28 thanks in part to Sheppard, who rushed for 177 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. He showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 65 yards.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Gabrielino, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Marelle Moore Jr., who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

When it comes to explaining why South El Monte lost on Friday, don't look at Michael Maldonado. Despite the final result, he rushed for 101 yards on only seven carries, and also threw for 191 yards and one TD.

Gabrielino's record is now 6-1. As for South El Monte, they moved to 4-3 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Gabrielino will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Arroyo at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. As for South El Monte, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 28-14 win against Rosemead on the 9th.
