Softball Recap: Williamsburg Comes Up Short

Williamsburg extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-10. They came up short against the Mount Union Trojans, falling 16-0. The Biue Pirates were not able to make up for their defeat to the Trojans from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

As for Mount Union, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-7. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

For Mount Union's part, Payton Williams was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Williams has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ke' Andra Wible was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Jaelynn Pederson was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Williamsburg and Mount Union could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Biue Pirates will take on West Branch at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (538 vs. 267). Meanwhile, Mount Union (ranked 359th) will meet Juniata Valley (ranked 175th) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
