Basketball Recap: Des Moines Takes a Loss

Des Moines suffered their biggest loss since December 6, 2024 on Saturday. They were outmatched by the Roy/Mosquero Blue/Lady Blue and fell 67-39. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue/Lady Blue this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-46 back in January.

Despite the defeat, Des Moines saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jadyn Atwater dropped a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards. That's the most points Atwater has posted since back in December of 2024. Katy Ward was another key player, putting up five points.

Even though they lost, Des Moines smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

Des Moines' loss dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Roy/Mosquero, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 22-0.

Des Moines didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 60-48 win against Springer on the 18th. As for Roy/Mosquero, they have also already played their next game, a 70-12 victory against New Mexico School for the Deaf on the 18th.
