Basketball Recap: Samuel Mitchell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Brevard Christian over Palm Bay

Brevard Christian extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping them down to 3-5. They came up short against the Palm Bay Pirates, falling 71-47. The War Eagles were not able to make up for their loss to the Pirates from their previous meeting back in December of 2024.

Several War Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Samuel Mitchell, who shot 4-for-6 from deep and dropped a double-double with 23 points and 15 boards. The contest was Mitchell's third in a row with at least 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel Mitchell, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.

As for Palm Bay, the win keeps them at an undefeated 6-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 64.7 points this season.

Palm Bay got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Caden Newton out in front who shot 75% from the field on his way to 14 points and four steals. Newton is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was O'Ryan Woolestan, who went 5-for-7 en route to 12 points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Brevard Christian has already played their next game, a 51-47 defeat against Life Christian Academy on the 5th. As for Palm Bay, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 56-52 loss against Viera on the 2nd.
