Recap: Morehead Panthers vs. Carlisle Chiefs
After a string of three wins, the Morehead Panthers's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 80-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of Carlisle. Morehead was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Carlisle apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Despite the loss, Morehead still got an impressive performance from Makel Smith, who scored 28 points along with 8 rebounds. Smith scored a full 41.8% of Morehead's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Chandler, who scored 12 points.
Even though they lost, Morehead were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carlisle only pulled down seven.
Trey Beamer continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Carlisle, scoring 35 points along with 9 rebounds. The match was Beamer's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Micah Gunter was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with 5 assists.
Morehead's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Carlisle, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season.
Morehead will head out on the road to face off against North Forsyth at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Forsyth will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 396th, while Morehead is ranked 52nd). As for Carlisle, they will be playing at home against Winston-Salem Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
