Basketball Game Preview: Archbishop Curley Friars vs. Rosedale Christian Academy Rosedale Panthers

The Archbishop Curley Friars and the Rosedale Christian Academy Rosedale Panthers will round out the year against one another at at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday. Archbishop Curley is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.

Archbishop Curley lost 70-48 to St. Mary's on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Friars have suffered against the Saints since February 4, 2022.

Meanwhile, Rosedale Christian Academy came up short against Prince George's Christian Academy Blue on Thursday and fell 66-56. While losing is never fun, the Rosedale Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while the Flyers are ranked 16th).

Despite the defeat, Rosedale Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Nazir Anderson went 6 of 15 on his way to 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Mercer, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Rosedale Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Rosedale Christian Academy's loss was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Archbishop Curley, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Archbishop Curley couldn't quite finish off Rosedale Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 and fell 49-46. Can Archbishop Curley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
