Softball Recap: Rim of the World Comes Up Short

Rim of the World extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 24 on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-12. They came up short against the Notre Dame Titans, falling 20-6. If the Fighting Scots were looking for revenge after losing 13-6 to the Titans when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Notre Dame, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-9. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Notre Dame's part, Michaela Rodriguez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. What's more, Rodriguez posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2025. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 5-for-6 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those doubles were her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Teresa Avila, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Eliana Lomeli, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Rim of the World will head out to face off against Fontana at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Steelers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.71 runs per game on average), something the Fighting Scots will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Notre Dame, they are taking a road trip to square off against Bloomington at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Titans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
