Football Game Preview: Madison Trojans vs. Wesclin Warriors

The Madison Trojans are taking a road trip to challenge the Wesclin Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Madison has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Wesclin will arrive with three straight victories.

Madison came up short against Gateway Tech on Friday, falling 29-6. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 445th in Illinois, while the Jaguars are ranked 135th in Missouri).

Meanwhile, Wesclin never let their opponents score on Friday. They really took it to Carlyle for the full four quarters, racking up a 34-0 win. The Warriors pushed the score to 20-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Indians/Lady Indians had little chance of recovering from.

Madison better keep an eye on Cael Madden. He was instrumental in Wesclin's win, rushing for 148 yards and three scores on only 13 carries, while also throwing for 52 yards and one TD. Madden's longest rush was for an impressive 57 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Wesclin was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 210 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 161 rushing yards in nine consecutive games dating back to last season.

Madison's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Wesclin, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Madison ended up a good deal behind Wesclin when the teams last played back in October of 2024, losing 41-26. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
