Preview: Rio Grande City Rattlers vs. Nixon Mustangs
Rio Grande City has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Nixon Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Rio Grande City suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They fell just short of Palmview by a score of 54-51. While losing is never fun, Rio Grande City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while Palmview is ranked 185th).
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Nixon's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of Martin by a score of 35-32.
Rio Grande City's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-11. As for Nixon, their defeat dropped their record down to 23-9.
Rio Grande City couldn't quite finish off Nixon when the teams last played back in December of 2023 and fell 35-33. Can Rio Grande City avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
