Softball Recap: Pilgrim Finds Playoff Glory Versus Coventry

With a playoff win on the line, Pilgrim rose to the challenge on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Coventry Oakers 7-6. The game was the first time the Patriots have beaten the Oakers on their field since May 31, 2024.

Gretchen Dombeck made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Dombeck was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Abigail Bryson was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madison Tuirok, who earned two runs and one stolen base.

Pilgrim's victory bumped their record up to 8-12-1. As for Coventry, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-11-3.

Coming up, Pilgrim will face off against Chariho at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers' pitching crew has only allowed 1.4 runs per game this season, so the Patriots' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Coventry does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
