Baseball Game Preview: Mount Vernon Majors vs. Lewis Lancers

The Mount Vernon Majors will square off against the Lewis Lancers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mount Vernon has six straight victories, Lewis has nine straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, Mount Vernon earned an 8-3 win over Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology.

Hudson Grimsley was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since April 1st. Talon Camacho was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs.

Meanwhile, Lewis came up short against Falls Church on Tuesday, falling 16-2.

Mount Vernon's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lewis, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.

Lewis' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mount Vernon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .470. It's a different story for Lewis, though, as they've only averaged .345. Will they be able to contain Mount Vernon's hitters?

Mount Vernon took their victory against Lewis when the teams last played on April 1st by a conclusive 22-3 score. Will the Majors repeat their success, or do the Lancers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
