Basketball Recap: Melbourne Central Catholic Comes Up Short

Melbourne Central Catholic played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the John Carroll Catholic Rams and fell 56-18. While losing is never fun, the Hustlers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 553rd, while the Rams are ranked 249th).

John Carroll Catholic got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Olivia Laughlin out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Laughlin has been hot recently, having posted ten or more boards the last three times she's played. Madi Burrowes was another key player, putting up 14 points along with eight steals and five rebounds.

Melbourne Central Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for John Carroll Catholic, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4.

The future could be bright for both Melbourne Central Catholic and John Carroll Catholic: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Melbourne Central Catholic will try to hand Pineapple Cove Classical Academy their seventh-straight defeat when the two meet at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, John Carroll Catholic will look to extend Odyssey Charter School's four-game losing streak when the meet at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
