Volleyball Recap: Portsmouth West Comes Up Short

Portsmouth West lost against Ironton back in September and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Senators fell just short of the Fighting Tigers by a score of 3-2. Senators fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Fighting Tigers since Monday.

Portsmouth West couldn't get the win, but they sure gave Ironton a tough time in the fourth set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 17-25, 22-25, 30-28, 15-13.

Macey Whisman paced Portsmouth West's offense, picking up 22 kills. Whisman got some help from Brayleigh Pistole and her 36 assists. Pistole also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Chloe Bryant, each putting up three.

Portsmouth West has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for Ironton, the win snapped their losing streak at four matches and leaves them with a 5-9 record.

Portsmouth West didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Waverly on the 7th. Ironton has also already played their next contest (against Rock Hill), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
