Preview: Del Oro vs. St. Mary's
Del Oro has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the St. Mary's Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Del Oro walked away with it. Their defense stepped up to hand the Lions a 2-0 shutout on Saturday. Given Del Oro's advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 56th, while McClatchy is ranked 260th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Del Oro was led to victory by the tag-team duo of
Kiana Faucette and
Cassidy Kelly, who scored both of Del Oro's goals. The pair have combined for a total of eight so far this season.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's waltzed into their contest on Saturday with three straight wins but they left with four. They had just enough and edged Enochs out 1-0. That's two games straight that St. Mary's has won by exactly one goal.
Del Oro pushed their record up to 9-1-6 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. As for St. Mary's, their victory bumped their record up to 13-2-1.
