Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Delavan). They put the hurt on Peoria Heights with a sharp 14-2 win on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Panthers needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Like Brimfield, Delavan also got a great game from a two-way player: Corie Green. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Green was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Hudson Briggs and Grady Burrell did most of the damage at the plate: Briggs went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Burrell got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs. Burrell is becoming a predictor of Delavan's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-13 when he doesn't). Mason Ziegler also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Brimfield's record is now 20-3. As for Delavan, the victory was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 3-14.

Delavan's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Brimfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. It's a different story for Delavan, though, as they've only averaged .257. Will they be able to contain Brimfield's hitters?

Brimfield skirted past Delavan 5-4 in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
