Utah high school football rankings: Skyridge overtakes Corner Canyon at the top

By Staff Report Sep 21, 2020, 2:00pm

Sophomore quarterback McCae Hillstead, stingy defense have Falcons sitting at 6-0.

Corner Canyon is ranked No. 14 nationally in this week's MaxPreps Top 25. But our updated computer rankings think another team is the best in Utah at the moment. Coming off an impressive 41-9 win over American Fork, Skyridge has vaulted into the No. 1 position.

The Falcons (6-0) are led by a sophomore at quarterback in McCae Hillstead, who has thrown for 1,451 yards and 20 touchdowns. He has also run for 340 yards and seven scores. Skyridge's defense has also been impressive, allowing just over eight points per game on the season and a meager total of 16 points over the past three weeks.

Corner Canyon (6-0) has plenty of reason to take exception to dropping a spot in this week's rankings. The Chargers have high school football's sixth-longest win streak at 32 in a row and have won every game this season by at least 22 points.

No. 3 Lone Peak (6-0) is also rolling along behind its defense, allowing less than six points per game. Senior defensive end John Henry Daley and junior linebacker Luke Durfey have been dominant, combining for 29 tackles for loss.
