The much-anticipated kickoff to the 2020 Mississippi high school football season is set for Sept. 4, a one-week delay from the original start date. Starkville begins the season at No. 1 in the state after losing in the Class 6A state semifinals last season.

Defending 2A state champion Taylorsville begins the year at No. 2 after finishing last season with 10 consecutive wins.

Class 5A is a classification of intrigue in the Magnolia State as No. 4 Picayune, No. 6 Neshoba Central (Philadelphia), No. 7 West Jones (Laurel), No. 8 Laurel and No. 11 West Point all begin the season with lofty expectations of competing for a state championship.
