Football Game Preview: Pflugerville Connally Cougars vs. Randle Lions

The Pflugerville Connally Cougars will face off against the Randle Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Pflugerville Connally is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Jefferson get on the board and left with a 65-0 win. The contest marked the Cougars' most dominant victory of the season.

A big part of Pflugerville Connally's win came down to the chemistry between Jase Watkins and his top target Jonah Garcia. Watkins threw for 151 yards and four TDs while Garcia gained 203 total yards and five touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Garcia a new career-high in receiving touchdowns (two). Taj Gaddy was another key player, rushing for 67 yards and one score on only nine carries.

Pflugerville Connally was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 312 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 242 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.

Pflugerville Connally didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Austin Williams and JJ Miller. Williams also made four total tackles, which is notable because Pflugerville Connally is 6-1 when he posts at least three total tackles, but 1-3 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Randle humbled Ellison with a 54-20 victory. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Eagles are ranked 528th) , the win on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Randle had a senior duo take command as Tyler Skrabanek threw for 331 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 81.2% of his passes and Ashton Johnson picked up 121 receiving yards and one TD. Those 331 passing yards set a new season-high mark for Skrabanek.

Pflugerville Connally pushed their record up to 7-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points over those games. As for Randle, their record now sits at 11-0.
