Basketball Recap: Cleveland Takes a Loss

Cleveland played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Birmingham Patriots, falling 78-35. The Cavaliers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-16.

Leading Birmingham to victory were Lili Martinez and Kayla Tanijiri. Martinez went 7 for 13 en route to 17 points and five boards, while Tanijiri dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten assists. The dominant performance gave Tanijiri a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Smith, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 11 points and three steals.

Cleveland's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-15. As for Birmingham, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 19-6.

Coming up, Cleveland will welcome Chatsworth at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Birmingham, they will venture away from home to challenge Cleveland at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
