Flag Football Game Preview: Downey Vikings vs. San Dimas Saints

Downey is on a 14-game streak of home wins, while San Dimas is on an eight-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Vikings will host the Saints at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Downey 6.3, San Dimas 9.1) so any points scored will be well earned.

Downey had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 47-point drubbing they dealt Paramount on Monday. The Vikings blew past the Pirates 47-0. Considering the Vikings have won 15 matchups by more than 26 points this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Downey found their leader in sophomore Madeline Garcia, who threw for 295 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81.8% of her passes, and also punched in one TD on the ground. Another player making a difference was Adriana Maldonado, who picked up 40 receiving yards and one score.

Downey didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Sophia Hernandez and Delilah Navarro.

Meanwhile, San Dimas strolled past Alta Loma with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 20-6. Given the Saints' advantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 100th, while the Braves are ranked 363rd) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

San Dimas' win came from a few key players Downey will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Audrey Schlim, who threw for 151 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 30 yards. That's the most passing yards she has posted since back in September. San Dimas' leading receiver Faith Kearns was Schlim's top target yet again, picking up 86 receiving yards and one TD.

Downey's win bumped their record up to 21-4. As for San Dimas, their victory bumped their record up to 23-5.
