Recap: James Monroe Mavericks vs. Greater Beckley Christian Crusaders

It was a good run, but the James Monroe Mavericks unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Greater Beckley Christian by a score of 63-61. James Monroe was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Greater Beckley Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played last Friday.

James Monroe lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Cooper Ridgeway, who scored 14 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. Ridgeway has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Cole, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, James Monroe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greater Beckley Christian only pulled down five offensive rebounds.

Greater Beckley Christian found their leader in underclassman Keegan Davidson, who scored 21 points along with seven assists and five steals. Davidson hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Landon Rose, who scored ten points.

James Monroe's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-3. As for Greater Beckley Christian, they pushed their record up to 11-6 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.

James Monroe will head out on the road to face off against River View at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in James Monroe's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests. As for Greater Beckley Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Independence at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Greater Beckley Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday.
