Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Orland couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the Gridley Bulldogs by a score of 18-15 on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 29-26 back in October.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Luke Schager, who rushed for 104 yards, and also threw for 125 yards and one touchdown on only nine passes. Schager's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his tenth straight game with at least 100 rushing yards. A healthy portion of Schager's aerial production (112 yards to be exact) went to Manny Martin, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Even if they lost, Orland's defense still kept up the pressure with 3.5 sacks. Dillon Rubio refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Another thorn in Gridley's side was Ivan Velasquez, who made 16 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

Gridley was led to victory by Jace Griggs and Marcus Duncan. Griggs rushed for 71 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries, while Duncan rushed for 113 yards and one TD while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Griggs' longest rush was for an impressive 57 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

The defeat snapped Orland's winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 10-3 record. As for Gridley, they pushed their record up to 13-0 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

Orland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gridley, they will square off against Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
