Football Recap: Orland's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday + How To Watch

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Orland couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the Gridley Bulldogs by a score of 18-15 on Saturday. The Trojans' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Orland lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Luke Schager, who rushed for 104 yards, and also threw for 125 yards and one TD on only nine passes. His rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his tenth straight game with at least 100 rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Manny Martin, who picked up 112 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Even if they lost, Orland's defense still kept up the pressure with 3.5 sacks. Dillon Rubio refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Another thorn in Gridley's side was Ivan Velasquez, who made 16 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

Gridley was led to victory by Jace Griggs and Marcus Duncan. Griggs rushed for 71 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries, while Duncan rushed for 113 yards and one TD while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Griggs' longest rush was for an impressive 57 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Orland's defeat dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Gridley, their victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0.

Orland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gridley, they will square off against Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
