Basketball Game Preview: Gross Catholic Cougars vs. Platteview Trojans

The Gross Catholic Cougars are taking a road trip to square off against the Platteview Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Gross Catholic is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since February 1, 2024 on Friday. They came up short against Bishop Neumann, falling 54-32. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Cavaliers recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Platteview hasn't had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They walked away with a 60-52 victory over Roncalli Catholic on Monday.

Platteview found their leader in sophomore Alexys Mandel, who posted 17 points along with six assists and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Stehlik, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

Platteview was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Gross Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Platteview, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.

Gross Catholic beat Platteview 63-52 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gross Catholic since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
