Basketball Game Preview: Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs vs. Overhills Jaguars

The Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs will challenge the Overhills Jaguars at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Southeast Raleigh knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Overhills likes a good challenge.

Southeast Raleigh is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Millbrook: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Bulldogs blew the Wildcats out of the water with a 56-27 final score. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Southeast Raleigh can attribute much of their success to A'Ziyah Trent, who went 7-for-8 on her way to 19 points and four steals, and Dariyah Harris, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 16 points and six steals. Thanks to that strong game, Trent now owns an excellent 53.3% field goal percentage. Madalyn Pass was another key player, putting up four points and three steals.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 21-21 at halftime, Overhills was not quite Hoggard's equal in the second half on Friday. They took a 44-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings. The game marked the Jaguars' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Southeast Raleigh will have to keep a close watch on Najiha Allen and Paris Autry, a pair of players who had a big impact on Overhills' prior game. Allen posted six points along with 14 rebounds and five steals, while Autry shot 45% from the field en route to 15 points. Autry's big performance that evening made it 11 games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anaiah McGee, who earned nine points.

Southeast Raleigh's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Overhills, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-2.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Southeast Raleigh has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 27.5 boards per game. However, it's not like Overhills struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23 rebounds.
