Volleyball Recap: St. Edward Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Mt. Vernon

St. Edward faced Mt. Vernon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Eagles fell just short of the Yellowjackets by a score of 3-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

St. Edward actually scored more points across those five sets (108-104), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 26-24, 20-25, 18-25, 15-13.

Michael Gall paced St. Edward's offense, picking up 11 kills. Gall really made an impact as he also led the team in assists with 21. Davion Tan-Nguyen controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

This is the second loss in a row for St. Edward and nudges their season record down to 13-7. As for Mt. Vernon, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season.

Coincidentally, St. Edward and Mt. Vernon will both be playing Upper Arlington the next time they take the court. The Yellowjackets will host the Golden Bears at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Eagles will play them later in the day, at 11:30 a.m.
